Annadāna Seva — The Joy of Giving Food

Annadāna, the offering of food, is considered one of the greatest acts of charity in the Vedic tradition. At Hare Krishna Mandir, Ahmedabad, this sacred service is carried out daily with devotion and care. Every meal prepared is not just food — it is prasādam, sanctified and offered first to Lord Krishna before being served to devotees, visitors, and the needy. Through this humble service, the temple shares love, compassion, and spiritual nourishment with all.

Over the years, the Annadāna Seva team has lovingly prepared and distributed more than 2.89 crore meals, serving around 4,500 people every single day. Each meal is prepared with high-quality ingredients — rice, dal, roti, sabji, and papad — ensuring purity, nutrition, and taste. Around 20 to 25 volunteers dedicate 3–4 hours daily to prepare these meals, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and devotion throughout the process.

Annadāna is more than feeding the body — it is feeding the soul. In the scriptures it is said, “One who gives food, gives life itself.” (Varāha Purāṇa). The Taittirīya Upaniṣad further declares, “Do not send away anyone who comes to your door without offering food and hospitality.” These timeless teachings remind us that food is divine, and sharing it selflessly brings immense spiritual merit.

By contributing to the Annadāna Seva, you directly participate in this sacred act of compassion. With just ₹ 35 per meal, you can help feed someone in need and become a part of this continuous wave of selfless service. Every donation helps sustain this effort and ensures that thousands continue to receive nutritious, sanctified food every day.

Food donation is considered Maha Dāna — the greatest of all charities — because it sustains life itself. When we offer Annadāna, we also offer Prānā Dāna, the gift of life. It blesses the giver with goodwill, removes karmic burdens, and fills one’s life with positivity, humility, and inner satisfaction. By supporting this seva, you help spread compassion and spiritual joy throughout society.

Join hands with Hare Krishna Mandir in this noble cause. Your Annadāna Seva donation not only feeds hungry bodies but nourishes hearts with divine grace. Together, let’s serve Krishna by serving His children — because when we feed others, we truly serve Him.
